Anesthesiology
Our mission is to provide the highest quality perioperative anesthesia care compassionately for adult and pediatric patients having ophthalmology and otolaryngology procedures. By providing superior services, we continue to earn the trust and confidence of surgeons and patients throughout the community and New England.
To help achieve this goal, we have established these core values:
- We will be kind and compassionate towards one another, our colleagues and our patients.
- We will be honest and transparent in dealing with each other.
- We will strive for and foster an environment of fairness and collaboration.
- We will proactively pursue clinical excellence and take initiative to help each other whenever possible.
- We will strive for efficiency.
For Our Patients
On the day of your surgery, you’ll be met and interviewed by an anesthesiologist who will review your medical history, allergies and previous anesthetic experience. The anesthesiologist will explain the anesthetic procedure, answer questions, obtain permissions, and prescribe appropriate sedation as indicated.
To ensure safety and minimize vomiting and aspiration, you must not have anything to eat (solids) the day of surgery. You may take your usual pills with sips of water.
The Anesthesia Department is multi-lingual and committed to explaining anesthesia procedure to non-English speaking patients and their families, so they can pose questions comfortably and receive answers in their own language.
Anesthesiologists on staff are fluent in:
- Arabic
- German
- French
- Chinese
- Korean
- Polish
- Hindi
- Russian
- Spanish
Interpreters for other languages are available from the Mass. Eye and Ear Interpreter Services.
Mass. Eye and Ear’s Medical Evaluation Center (MEC) ensures that patients are at their healthiest prior to surgery, and that their medical needs continue to be met for the duration of their hospitalization.
