Education Programs
Mass. Eye and Ear is home to the Harvard Medical School Department of Ophthalmology, which is led by Chief and Chair Joan W. Miller, MD. Medical students, residents, and fellows receive superb training in comprehensive ophthalmology and all of the ophthalmic subspecialties.
Medical Student Education
During the third-year course in Core Medicine, Harvard Medical School students receive introductory training on vision and disorders of the eye. They also have an opportunity to both observe and evaluate patients in the Mass Eye and Ear Emergency Department. Students can also take electives in basic ophthalmology at Mass Eye and Ear. Ophthalmology Residency Program
The Harvard Ophthalmology Residency Training Program is one of the premier ophthalmology training programs in the country. Directed by Alice Lorch, MD, MPH, the program offers a stellar educational experience under the mentorship of some of the nation’s finest faculty. Learn more
Optometric Residency Program
The Optometric Residency in Ocular Disease and Cornea/Contact Lens at Mass Eye and Ear is affiliated with the New England College of Optometry (NECO). Directed by Amy Watts, OD, the program provides advanced clinical training in the diagnosis and management of ocular disease, contact lenses, and vision rehabilitation. Learn more
