Optometry and Contact Lens Service
Our optometry team provides routine eye care, as well as prescriptions for glasses and contact lenses. With extensive knowledge of contact lens fitting methods, techniques, and the newest available lens modalities, our optometrists can expertly assess and prescribe contact lenses for many specialty uses, including: astigmatism, bifocal, color enhancement, dry eyes, color deficiency, prosthetic, post-surgical and post-trauma, and keratoconus and corneal irregularities.
Comprehensive Ophthalmology
Our primary eye care physicians provide a full spectrum of integrated patient care, from routine eye care and screenings for systemic diseases like diabetes, to the management of complex ophthalmic diseases such as cataracts and glaucoma.
Cornea
Our cornea specialists offer care to patients with corneal, eye surface and refractive disorders, and perform diagnostic testing and treatment of a wide variety of corneal conditions. We have developed programs to treat complicated cataracts, dry eye and corneal scarring caused by infection and corneal degenerations.
Glaucoma
We utilize the latest technology and resources to diagnose, treat and manage glaucoma disease. We are highly experienced in performing the latest surgical procedures, which offer patients shorter recovery times and a lowered risk of complications.
Inflammatory Eye Disease (Uveitis)
Uveitis Service provides diagnostic and therapeutic care to patients with inflammatory eye disease. Patients are referred to our specialists for surgical and medical treatment of infectious and immunologic ocular disorders.
Ophthalmic Plastic Surgery
Specialists in our Ophthalmic Plastic Surgery Service have in-depth expertise in reconstructive and cosmetic eyelid surgery, laser surgery, treatment of orbital tumors and inflammations (such as thyroid eye disease), removal of eyes (enucleation), and treatment for traumatic lacerations and fractures.
Retina Consultants
Mass Eye and Ear is home to the world's first retina service, which was established in 1947 by Harvard Medical School retinal pioneer and innovator, Charles L. Schepens, MD. Today, our retina specialists continue to provide exceptional care for patients with diseases of the retina, which include diabetic retinopathy and age-related macular degeneration (two of the leading causes of vision loss in the U.S. adult population).
Our specialists are equipped to treat diseases affecting the vitreous, macula and retina for patients of all ages. We provide care for eye problems that result from retinal detachment, post cataract complications and eye trauma. Specialists also screen and care for intraocular tumors and inherited eye diseases in both children and adults.
All retina specialists are board-certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology, and hold faculty appointments at Harvard Medical School.
The audiology services at Mass Eye and Ear, Stoneham, provide comprehensive, state-of-the-art hearing health care to people of all ages, infants to adults. Every patient is unique, and every situation demands careful evaluation and application of the most appropriate technology.
In Stoneham, we provide a full range of hearing tests to evaluate hearing loss and help patients decide if hearing aids are the right solution for them. We also offer hearing aid selection and fitting and help patients become accustomed to their hearing aids.
