U.S. News & World Report 2024-2025 “Best Hospitals” survey ranks Mass Eye and Ear #4 in nation for Ophthalmology and #6 for Otolaryngology.
Mass Eye and Ear and Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH), members of Mass General Brigham, have been recognized by U.S. News & World Report in the 2024-2025 “Best Hospitals” rankings with the #4 ranking for ophthalmology (eye care) and #6 ranking in otolaryngology (ear, nose and throat care).
“As we celebrate our 200th year at Mass Eye and Ear, it is so fitting to see our incredible institution recognized again as a top hospital in the nation for eye and ENT specialty care,” said CarolAnn Williams, president of Mass Eye and Ear. “This honor is a direct reflection of the dedication of the entire team from every level to foster an environment of innovation and excellence. Most of all our patients inspire the Mass Eye and Ear community to develop new treatments and cures that could change their lives.”
The Mass Eye and Ear/MGH Department of Ophthalmology earned the #4 national ranking for 2024-2025. This ranking is based entirely on a reputational survey of board-certified ophthalmologists around the country. Realizing the need for more objective and transparent reporting in the field, the Department, under the leadership of Chair Joan Miller, MD, has published a Quality and Outcomes Report since 2010.
The Mass Eye and Ear/MGH Department of Otolaryngology–Head and Neck Surgery earned the #6 ranking for U.S. programs for 2024-2025. The otolaryngology ranking is based on scoring criteria including quality of care, patient safety and national reputation as surveyed by board-certified otolaryngologists. The department is led by Chair Mark A. Varvares, MD.
In 2009, Mass Eye and Ear and MGH announced that Mass Eye and Ear physicians would lead and staff the Departments of Ophthalmology and Otolaryngology–Head and Neck Surgery at MGH, which is why both hospitals are named in the ranking.
Mass Eye and Ear is proud to be part of other honors for Mass General Brigham this year. Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH), Brigham and Women’s Hospital (BWH), McLean, and Spaulding Rehabilitation were once again named among the top hospitals in the nation by U.S. News and World Report and each also earned high marks in multiple clinical specialties. MGH and BWH are again on the U.S. News “Best Hospitals” honor roll while McLean Hospital named #2 in the nation for psychiatry. Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital earned the #3 spot for rehabilitation.
