Mass Eye and Ear Hosts 3rd Free Community Screening Event for Roxbury Tenants of Harvard

Mass General Brigham Community Care Van serving the community Boston, Mass. — Mass Eye and Ear hosted its 3rd “Eye, Ear, and Eat” a free community health screening event for its neighbors in Mission Hill at Mass Eye and Ear’s 800 Huntington Ave location. The event is a community partnership with Roxbury Tenants of Harvard. Clinicians from Mass Eye and Ear offered free vision, hearing and head and neck screenings, access to financial counselors and education on health care delivery options. In addition, Mass General Brigham Community Care Vans provided blood pressure screenings and education. More than 100 residents attended and participated in screenings with some attendees identified for needing further care including hearing aids and other vision, hearing and head and neck issues that can impact their health and quality of life.

Two health providers carrying out a vision screening “Improving access to these vital services for our community is something all of us at Mass Eye and Ear are proud to be a part of. These screening days are so important to overall health and in some instances, we were able to identify an undiagnosed issue and immediately get the patient scheduled for follow up and care.” said Dr. Gregory Randolph, Director, Thyroid and Parathyroid Endocrine Surgical Division, Mass Eye and Ear.

It’s a privilege to serve our neighbors who may not otherwise have access to care.” It’s so rewarding, especially for our residents, fellows and medical students to experience first-hand the spirit of Mass Eye and Ear serving the community. The entire team is so proud to participate and enable access to these critical services,” said, Dr. Mark A. Varvares, Chair, Department of Otolaryngology–Head and Neck Surgery.

The specialists at Mass Eye and Ear’s 800 Huntington Ave location provide routine and sub-specialty eye, ear, nose, throat, head and neck care in a state-of-the-art facility. The site is open Monday to Friday 8am-5pm and has a state-of the-art surgical center, staffed by teams of Mass Eye and Ear surgeons, anesthesiologists and nurses.
