Mass. Eye and Ear
COVID-19 Emergency Relief Fund
Thanks to a generous gift from DCU, Digital Federal Credit Union, Mass. Eye and Ear has launched a COVID-19 Emergency Relief Fund. The Fund will provide unrestricted support for the hospital in this unprecedented time and ensure financial health for Mass. Eye and Ear in the years to come.
While we are not a primary treatment center for COVID-19 patients, we are caring for these patients when their ancillary conditions require our expertise. Our team has worked tirelessly to keep our community safe and healthy and provide our patients with the best care possible through this crisis. Your gift will ensure that we are able to carry out our mission and will support our amazing physicians and caregivers as they care for our patients.
COVID-19 Research
We are pleased that the Mass. Eye and Ear scientific community is able to contribute to the understanding and treatment of the COVID-19 pandemic. Luk Vandenberghe, PhD, director of the Grousbeck Gene Therapy Center, is actively engaged in research to develop a genetic vaccine, Eric Holbrook, MD, is looking at the connection between loss of smell and taste and the presence of asymptomatic COVID-19, and the Harvard-wide Infectious Disease Institute, led by Mass. Eye and Ear’s Michael Gilmore, PhD, continues to lead the field in studying microbial pathogens and antibiotic drug resistance. This work includes development of new molecular diagnostic tests to rapidly identify agents of human infection, and research to understand and block the ability of viruses to infect human cells.
