Boston, Mass. — Massachusetts Eye and Ear has once again been named a top hospital in the nation for its specialties by U.S. News & World Report in the 2019–2020 “Best Hospitals” issue.

The Mass. Eye and Ear/Mass General Department of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery (ear, nose, throat care) is ranked #2 in the nation (#1 in New England), a rise from #6 on last year’s 2018-2019 rankings. The otolaryngology ranking is based on many factors, including quality of care, patient safety and survival, patient outcomes and experience, and national reputation as voted by board-certified otolaryngologists from around the nation.

“We are incredibly honored that U.S. News & World Report has recognized Mass. Eye and Ear again as a top hospital for Eye and ENT specialty care nationwide and in New England, and are especially proud that both of our departments are nationally recognized among the top in the country,” said John Fernandez, President of Mass. Eye and Ear. “We take immense pride in our staff and faculty, who are strongly committed to providing top care for all issues related to vision, hearing, and head and neck cancer. Most importantly, we thank our patients, who continue to trust us with their care and enable our hospital to advance these medical fields through research, clinical discoveries, and training future leaders.”

In 2009, Mass. Eye and Ear and Mass General announced that Mass. Eye and Ear physicians would lead and staff the Departments of Ophthalmology and Otolaryngology at Mass General, which is why both hospitals are named in the ranking.
